Nansi Bielanski
Freediver with Lemon Shark

2021

About the Item

Like almost all of us, I grew up fearing sharks and hoping never to meet one. We still see it everywhere, the image of the blood-thirsty man eater, stalking us in the shadows. The reality couldn’t be more different. While the media is fixated on sensationalizing the 7-10 fatal shark attacks globally per year, it has remained utterly silent about the fact that we are quietly and rapidly erasing sharks from our entire planet at a staggering rate of one hundred million sharks per year in an unsustainable and sometimes legal act of ignorance and greed. So, why is this such a hopeful piece? Because it is proof that people can change. We can educate ourselves, we can embrace knowledge over cultural programming, and overcome fear with love. This self portrait is my testimony to that basic human ability, and that is a cause for hope.

To my darling for memory - a horse on a turquoise blue background
By Daria Kotlyarova
Located in Fort Lee, NJ
This painting is made on the wooden block showing a horse that symbolizing the memory that can go to anyone with deep thoughts and love. It can be placed either on wall or any other place including shelf. In the modern world, the artist is a peculiar explorer of the time that he lives In. The “main character” of this world is a man whose gaze is turned inward. This view projects its existential reality, where the figurative language of painting is a method of transmitting abstract images of the experiences of the main characters and the time in which they exist on an equal footing with the viewer. Pictures of Daria Kotlyarova have no plot, at first glance, they have no action, but there is a moment. The moment before the second “before” ... and the viewer stops and freezes in tension, this is almost a psychological “cinema reception” that refers us to David Hockney’s paintings...
