Influenced by the realism of the Neapolitan school, Raffaele Armenise, a painter from Apulia, devoted himself to genre painting and a series of landscapes. He began studying painting in Bari. After winning a provincial competition, he managed to move to Naples where he perfected his painting skills at the Academy of Fine Arts. He followed the courses of Domenico Morelli and Filippo Palizzi, thus receiving a deep influence from the Realism. Having completed his studies, in 1875 he opened a studio in Capodimonte, where he devoted himself mainly to genre painting, which brought him immediate market success.
This painting set in Lombardy stands out for its high quality brushwork and light subject matter, where two shepherdesses walk through the mountains near a lake. Realism distinguishes this scene, where the mountain view serves as a backdrop to the two little girls' walk

- Portrait of a noblewomanLocated in Roma, RMArtist: Pietro Lucchini Title: Portrait of a noblewoman (1843) Medium: oil on canvas Signature: Signed and dated in the center on the right “P.ro Luchini made Milan 1843” The freshness of colour and refinement of the composition, governed by a technically impeccable drawing and the adoption of a clear, luminous palette, are the main characteristics of this Portrait of a Biedermeier-style noblewoman. The minuteness of the details emphasising the décor and the description of the surroundings and clothing serve to clarify the rank of the woman portrayed. This aristocratic portrait makes Lucchini a true portraitist à la mode, in demand and acclaimed especially in the Lombardy region, but also internationally. In fact, the author's experience in the East is not to be forgotten: in 1850, he received an offer to teach painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna, but declined the offer to leave for Constantinople, where he arrived in 1851. He stayed in the East for another ten years, working mainly in Constantinople, Egypt and the court of the Shah of Persia. He worked mainly on official portraiture, adopting the same technical expertise that distinguished him in his Italian years.
