About the Item
Oil on canvas painting of “Bouquet and Figure” by the well known Spanish artist, Ramon Pichot. Signed lower right. Titled and signed verso. In excellent condition. Original gold leaf frame with minor restorations. Circa 1960. Overall measurements framed 26.75 by 31 inches.
.He was born in Figueres in 1924 and he died in 1987. A nephew of painter Ramon Pichot Gironés, and son of a couple of musicians, he grew up in a family with a rich artistic background. For several generations, their house in Cadaqués was a meeting point for personalities belonging to the cultural life. In 1941 he moved to Madrid, where he visited the Prado Museum regularly. He was also a disciple of Manuel Benedicto. Later, he studied in France with Josep Pujol and subsequently with Dalí in Cadaqués. In 1949 he held his first individual exhibition in the Pinacoteca, a gallery where he held a new exhibition in 1957. He also made his works known in Madrid, San Sebastian, Bilbao, etc. During the 1960s and 1970s he also did that in several American cities (Miami, Palm Beach and New York)
His paintings are among the most representative of a surviving tradition whose high point should be situated during Modernism.

Ramon Pichot i Soler
Ramon Pichot Soler (Figueres, 1924 - 1996) belongs to a family closely linked to the arts. His father - Ricard Pichot - and his uncle Luis were closely related to music: the first cellist, disciple of Pau Casals, and the second violinist. Closer to plastic activity is his uncle Ramon, who developed his pictorial corpus at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. Following in his father's footsteps, he began his cello studies, but opted for the plastic arts upon discovering his true vocation. At that time he lived in Paris and there he began his formative stage within the post-impressionist current, a style to which he remained faithful throughout his career. Pichot was twenty years old when he exhibited for the first time. Later, through various exhibitions, he became known both in Spain and in Europe. In March 1954 he exhibited at the "Círculo de Bellas Artes" in Madrid and soon his work would be accepted in the United States, specifically in New York. He exhibited for the first time at the Trosby Gallery in Palm Beach, Florida in 1964 and two years later he exhibited at the Hammer Galleries in New York with great success, which was repeated on numerous occasions until 1981.

La lecture au jardin (Lesson in the Garden)
By Georges d'Espagnat
Located in New Orleans, LA
French Post-Impressionist painter Georges d’Espagnat captures a charming moment between a mother and her child in this vibrant oil on canvas. Rendered with a studied use of complementary colors and bold brushstrokes, the painting showcases the artist's unique Post-Impressionist style. Remembered as one of the most individualistic artists of the 20th century, his distinctive canvases bring together the loose brushwork of the Impressionists and the bold color palette favored by the Fauves. Together, they achieve a vibrant spontaneity that lends itself well to the carefree subjects of the present work.
Masterfully composed, La lecture au jardin moves beyond the Impressionist instinct to capture a fleeting moment on canvas. Rather, d'Espagnat succeeds in creating a deep feeling of harmony in the work. Warm colors are perfectly balanced with cool tones, while vertical and horizontal lines are softened by the curves of the foliage and his subjects' figures. Through his simplification of forms and intentional use of color and line, he creates a scene that is carefully designed and thoroughly modern. A similar view of a mother and her child by d'Espagnat is currently in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York).
The Post-Impressionist painter was an individualist since his youth, choosing to forgo traditional schooling in order to independently study the Old Masters in the Louvre. He soon became involved with the most prominent Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painters of the age, including Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Paul Signac, who themselves existed outside the traditional norms of French Academic training. In 1891, he exhibited at the Salon des Refusés, and again the following year at the Salon des Indépendants.
By 1895, he held his first one-man show in Paris, and just three years later his success earned him a solo show at the prestigious Durand-Ruel Gallery. Between 1905 and 1910 he made several trips to visit Renoir on the Côte d’Azur. Their close friendship resulted in a group exhibition at Marcel Bernheim...
