Oil on canvas painting of a docked navy ship with sailors on shore.

Measures: Canvas 19"H x 23"W; Framed 23.5"H x 28"W.
Hildegarde Hume Hamilton (1898 - 1970) was active/lived in Florida, Virginia. He is known for Impressionist buildings in landscape and coastal view painting, illustration.
Hildegard Hume Hamilton was born in Syracuse, New York, in 1898. After her education there, and brief training at the age of six in art schools in Venice, Italy, while on a European sojourn with her father, she studied fine art at the Académie Julian, the École des Beaux-Arts and the Académie Grande Chaumière in Paris, France, during the 1920s and 1930s.
Back in the United States, Hamilton studied for a short time at the Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis, the Cincinnati Art Academy and under the tutelage of the landscape and maritime painter Anthony Thieme (1888-1954) in Rockport, Massachusetts. The Ainslie Galleries on Fifth Avenue held an exhibit of Hamilton’s French Alpine Scenes to much acclaim. Hamilton exhibited in venues throughout the city and sold as many as 300 landscapes. In 1927, Vice President Charles Gates Dawes acquired one of Hamilton’s paintings following her one person exhibit at the Women’s National Party Headquarters in Washington D.C. In the autumn of 1928, an exhibition of her landscapes and cityscapes at the Galerie Bernheim Jeune in Paris was widely and positively reviewed. In 1929, she became the first American woman to exhibit at Philip Dillon’s club –
L’Artistique, in Provence. She also contributed to the Salon des Artistes Independants in Paris. In 1930, Hamilton exhibited at the Carlton Hotel in Washington D.C. and in New York at the Grand Central Palace, American Art Association-Anderson Galleries on 57th Street, and the Huntington Bay and Yacht Clubs. During this period, the artist resided at 9 Gramercy Park in New York City. The picturesque neighborhood inspired Hamilton’s painting entitled 4 Gramercy Park, Mayor Harper’s House, Manhattan. C. 1930. The oil painting captures the red brick façade and intricate cast iron embellishments of 4 Gramercy Park, the former home of publisher and New York City Mayor James Harper (1795- 1869). The two lamps at the foot of the steps signify the home was a mayoral residence and remain at the site to this day. Mrs. Hamilton studied at the Art Students League, New York, New York, and the Cincinnati Art Academy, Cincinnati, Ohio. Hamilton exhibited her topographical street-scenes and landscapes widely throughout the United States with shows at the Syracuse, New York, Museum of Fine Art; the University of Kentucky; the University of Georgia, and most importantly, New York City’s Society of Independent Artists from 1929 to 1933, 1938, 1939, 1943 and 1944. She also illustrated books. Hamilton’s paintings are included in the collections of Wesleyan College, She was aof a generation of American artists that included Alfred Hutty, Wayne Beam Morrell, Frank Henry Shapleigh, Jane Peterson, Henry Martin Gasser, Emil Holzhauer...

A native of Windham, New Hampshire, upon graduation from high school, Titcomb studied at the Massachusetts Normal Art School, before accepting a position as a drawing teacher in the public schools of Brockton, Massachusetts, where she remained for fourteen years before resigning, in 1889, to study painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Her instructors there included Edmund Charles Tarbell, Philip Leslie Hale, and Frank Weston Benson. In the 1890s she went to Paris to study with Jules Joseph Lefebvre and to travel. She then returned to Boston, taking studio space at the Harcourt Studios, where all three of her teachers kept space. In 1895 she became a member of the Copley Society and began exhibiting locally; from 1904 to 1927 she showed work in 29 exhibits at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She began signing her name as "M. Bradish Titcomb" in 1905 to avoid prejudice against her gender. The same year saw her making a sketching trip to the artists' colony at Old Lyme, Connecticut, a center for the American Impressionists; this trip seems to have cemented her interest in the style.
In 1915, Titcomb's Portrait of Geraldine J. – the mother of actress Jane Russell – was shown at the Corcoran Gallery of Art and purchased by President Woodrow Wilson; another portrait, of Frank P. Sibley, was reproduced in the Boston Globe. During this period her work was shown in a traveling exhibition with that of Cecilia Beaux, Lydia Field Emmet, Jean MacLane...

About the artist:
Jack Laycox (1921-1985) was born and grew up in Auburn, California. The eldest of 4 children, all of whom were artistically talented, it was Jack who was the shining star, constantly drawing, filling every available piece or section of paper that was available.
After earning an engineering degree from San Francisco State University, which provided the opportunity to travel throughout the United States to work on various assignments, he eventually returned to his love of the Fine Arts, specifically plein-air painting. With encouragement from his wife, sculptor Jayne Amason, he made the break from his career to become a full time artist.
The first Laycox Gallery was opened in Walnut Creek, California. He become known locally and throughout northern California, as well as being represented by Royce Gallery in Los Angeles and other galleries in the U.S. Jack and Jayne had been spending time in the Monterey area, which they loved dearly, so they moved there permanently and opened up a new Laycox Gallery in Carmel. His work became increasingly popular, being sought after for both private and corporate collections. Seascape, California Coast
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork "Seascape, California Coast" is an oil painting on canvas by noted California artist Willam Henry Blackman, b.1930. It is signed at the lower left corner by the artist, also stamped signed in the back. The canvas size is 23.75 x 48 inches. It is in excellent condition.
About the artist:
William H. Blackman was born February 2, 1930 in San Diego. He spent most of his early years in West Los Angeles. He became interested in art at about the age of 12 when he painted his first oil painting. In high school he majored in art so he could experiment with various mediums to find ways to interpret his ideas.
In December of 1948 he joined the Navy and was stationed in Hawaii. After his tour of duty he returned to California and attended Woodbury College to learn about advertising and the graphic arts. While there, he met his wife Shirley, who coincidentally came from the Big Island of Hawaii. They were married on June 11, 1955 in her home town of Honokaa. When they returned he began his career in the graphic arts.
In 1960 they began their family and moved to a new home in the San Fernando Valley. Meanwhile, Bill had become interested in the fine arts again. His position as an advertising production manger put him in contact with art directors and they would lunch together and then visit various art galleries in the area. He began oil painting again as a hobby.
In 1964 he made an important contact through an associate at his agency. This person was a vice-president at Aaron Brothers Galleries and purchased paintings for them. They had showrooms in various major cities and sold original framed paintings to art galleries and furniture stores. He said they could possibly sell some of his seascapes so Bill began painting in his spare time. Gradually, they sold more than he could produce so Bill made the decision to leave the advertising business and devote his time to painting.
In 1965 the Blackman's moved to Thousand Oaks, California. He began his career as a fine artist and to this day resides in Thousand Oaks. He contracted with Aaron Brothers to be his exclusive agents and began specializing in seascapes. After a few years he added landscapes and some other subjects. Bluebonnet landscapes and Padre Island seascapes were popular in the Dallas showroom.
He and his family vacationed frequently in Hawaii and that became another source of inspiration. There, he was represented by the Davis Gallery in Honolulu. A good relationship with "Barney" Davis continued after the closing of the Aaron Brothers Wholesale Division in 1980. He painted for the Davis Gallery for about 8 years until they closed due to illness. Afterwards, he was contacted by Kobayashi Art Enterprises and has been represented by them.
In 1980 he began teaching in private studios around the country, demonstrating his method of painting various subjects. During the latter part of the 80"s he was approached by Susan Scheewe Publishing to author and illustrate a book showing his way of painting. The first was published in 1990 and he has authored four other books since then. He demontrated six different instructional video tapes that were produced by his artist friend Gary Jenkins. Gary, who was helpful introducing Bill to the teaching business, was also an artist for Aaron Brothers Galleries.
William Blackman is a published artist. Twenty subjects have been lithographed, six being limited editions, when he was with Aaron Brothers. One of his Hawaiian paintings...

Easy Green - Original Palm Tree Painting on Turquoise Sky
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Kathleen Keifer's original artworks represent one of the most significant expressions of New California Realism. Keifer brings a fresh perspective to her colorful scenes of everyday life in the sun along the Pacific coastline (and beyond). Her detailed paintings show us the breathtaking California scenery with its recognizable elements in a new light and with a keen eye for clever composition and layered colors. Her modern landscapes and sublime seascapes capture an impressive visceral visual.
This one-of-a-kind 36 inch high by 12 inch wide palm tree inspired artwork is a composition created with acrylic paint on canvas. It is stretched, wired, and ready to hang. The sides are painted as a continuation of the front and it does not require framing. It is signed by the artist on the front and back of the artwork. A certificate of authenticity issued by the gallery is included. Convenient local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and international shipping are available.
Kathleen Keifer is a California-based internationally collected artist. Her paintings invite the viewer to consider the complex relationship between time and timelessness. It is the sheer visual interaction between the elements, taken in their bare simplicity that interests her. Water, sky, and architecture change their appearance with the shifts in weather and light. Her broken brushstrokes depict light and color in luminous waves, dissolving form into a shimmering surface of vibrant light. For her, painting captures the very essence of time and its passage.
While painting landscapes she became fascinated with isolating the objects in her paintings. She believes that actual sites and places have individual magic. The goal is to take objects from popular culture and paint them in a new context. She began to paint the silhouette of the Life Guard Tower more as a pop art symbol than a landscape element. With a high level of technical virtuosity, Keifer creates a new sense of reality with textures and colors that seem to add lighting effects and distinct shadows, confronting the viewer with new interpretations of familiar objects.
Born and raised in Chicago, Kathleen Keifer is a second-generation artist. Her mother, also a fine artist, exposed Keifer to the world of art and supervised her training from a very early age. This legacy continues today as Keifer closely nurtures the development of the artistic leaning in each of her three daughters, inspiring a third generation of female artists. Her works are represented by Artspace Warehouse Los Angeles and have been exhibited and collected internationally, including Chicago, New York, and London.
Artspace Warehouse has been representing and exhibiting Kathleen Keifer's original artworks since 2017. The gallery has been a 1stdibs partner since 2014 with consistently excellent reviews from clients worldwide. The gallery exhibits a large selection of affordable original artworks from established and emerging international artists with diverse backgrounds at high standards. Artspace Warehouse is known to provide accurate descriptions, images, reliable services, communication, and delivery.

"Lobster Pots" Gloucester Massachusetts Seashore Scene Oil Painting with Figure
Located in New York, NY
Impressionist seashore landscape with figure of fisherman, lobster pots, and crashing waves in Gloucester Massachusetts. Willet has portrayed this piece in a most dramatic and energetic way and has packed much feeling into this miniature work. It is almost as if we are there in the waves in the early morning, with the man and his lobster pots. Christopher is known for capturing the beauty and simplicity of an earlier time of the 20th Century; old New York, families working together, villages and farms and friends taking walks together. Many are depicted in recognizable historical settings and this piece is an excellent example of this. Christopher engages his audience with the quick use of brushwork and great attention to picking up the energy passionately of his subjects. The piece comes housed in a decorated dark tone wood frame and it is ready to be displayed with hanging wire on verso.

Seaview, Fire Island, New York, Sand Dunes, Ocean Side
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork titled "Seaview, Fire Island, New York, Sand Dunes, Ocean Side" 1956, is an oil painting on canvas board by Italian/American artist Xavier Barile, 1891-1981. It is signed at the lower right corner by the artist. Also signed, dated, and titled on the back. The canvas board size is 12 x 16 inches, framed size is 22 x 26 inches. Framed in an ornate wooden gold frame, with black velvet liner. It is in generally excellent condition, the frame have some minor restorations, barely visible and 2 small area where the velvet is scratched.
About the artist:
Xavier J Barile was a Social Realist painter, teacher, lecturer, graphic artist, and writer. He was born March 18, 1891, in Tufo, Italy. His love of beauty manifested itself at a very early age. During his early teens, he used to design monograms for the young girls of his home town, Tufo, Italy, to embroider on their most precious possession, their hope chest and trousseau.
In 1907, his mother brought him, his two younger brothers and two sisters to New York, to join their father who had been in New York for several years, preparing the way. He quickly learned English and spent some time helping his father, who was earning a living for the family as a tailor.
Having learned English well, Barile then enrolled in the Evening Art Classes at Cooper Union Institute in New York. In due course he enrolled in the Art Students League, New York City. Here he came under the influence of John Sloan, Reginald Marsh and Victor Perard as teachers and George Luks, Robert Henri and Everett Shinn of "the Eight" as friends and colleagues.
In 1939 John Sloan dedicated his book, Gist of Art as follows, "To my old friend, first monitor of my first class at the Art Students League 1914." This friendship and mutual regard lasted until Sloan's death in 1951.
Of course, it was only natural that Barile should be a part of the "Ashcan School," painting the New York Scene. During this time that he was on his own he worked with all mediums - oil, watercolor, pastel, casein, charcoal, etc. - and he did some fine work with monotypes.
It was during these years, the 20's and 30's, that he began to exhibit in such places as the Whitney Studio Club (forerunner of the Whitney Museum of American Art), The Kit Kat Club, The Anderson Gallery, The Cincinnati Museum, The New Mexico Museum, National Society of Painters in Casein, The Salmagundi Club and many other exhibits throughout the United States. He is currently represented in The National Collection of Fine Arts (NCFA) Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.
In the mid 30's, like many another struggling artist, XJB worked on the WPA Art Project. One of the murals he worked on is in the U.S. Customs House, Bowling Green, N.Y.C. In this project he collaborated with Reginald Marsh who was the supervisor of this phase of the work.
The years until 1939 were spent working in all parts of the United States and in conducting his own classes for aspiring artists. In 1939, on the recommendation of John Sloan, he became the founder, first teacher and Chairman of The Department of Fine Arts, Pueblo Junior College, Pueblo Colorado...
