Il grande paesaggio nordico, con pendici montuose verdeggianti in mezzo alle quali scorre un fiume, è abitata da diverse figure in primo piano: un gruppo di persone sta ascoltando un giovane in piedi al centro, che annuncia qualcosa, indicando, con il braccio proteso verso l'alto, il sole che squarcia le nubi scure.
Evoca una predicazione di San Giovanni Battista, benchè nessun elemento iconografico riconduca specificamente a tale personaggio.
