River landscape of late 18th century - early 19th century

About the Item

Late 18th - early 19th century River Landscape Oil on canvas, 64 x 96 cm - with frame 77 x 10 cm The canvas in question is an example of Vedutist painting at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, attentive as much to the real datum, the architectural and landscape aspect, as to the narrative aspect. A landscape view along the course of a placid river is painted. The painter's hand deftly outlines the curves of the river surrounded by a flourishing hilly landscape. Buildings and small villages gently fade into the distance, leaving the imagination open to what cannot be seen. In the foreground, the focus is on the human figure with the depiction of some boats on the shore and characters at rest and work in brightly colored clothing. A fascinating view because of the mixture of all these elements surrounded by a gentle atmosphere and soft, timeless luminosity in which the real datum is intertwined with fantasy.
