About the Item
Valerie Etitinwo's unique approach to abstract figurative painting celebrates the unconventional beauty found in imperfection and awkwardness. The Nigerian-Swiss artist uses bold colors and disorganized shapes to create captivating artworks that challenge traditional beauty standards. Etitinwo draws from her upbringing in dichotomous cultures to create work that is universally relatable through the celebration of imperfections. With each piece, she strives to push her creativity and expression to new levels of intrigue and "ugliness."
This vibrant abstract painting on canvas measures 54 inches high by 56 inches wide. The sides of the artwork are painted as a continuation of the front, eliminating the need for framing and creating a cohesive, finished look. The painting is wired and ready to hang, and is signed by the artist on the front, adding an extra touch of authenticity and value. Free delivery is available for those in the local Los Angeles area. Affordable worldwide shipping is available for U.S. and international art collectors. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included with the artwork, ensuring that the piece is an authentic work of art from Valerie Etitinwo.
Etitinwo's appreciation for cubism is evident in her unique approach to portraiture, which features faces painted like masks. As an introverted person, she often observes people more than she talks to them. Growing up around Nigerian "aunties," they became the subjects of her work, with their actions and mannerisms inspiring her paintings. Through her art, Etitinwo seeks to deconstruct Nigerian culture and stereotypes, creating artworks that challenge and expand our understanding of beauty and imperfection.
“I’m old enough to understand them [stereotypes] but also young enough to question them.”

Danny Brown is a first-generation American urban artist born in Los Angeles. His parents relocated their family from Oaxaca, Mexico in search of opportunities in the United States. Brown uses his interest in fashion as well as his knowledge of color, design, and culture as inspiration for his paintings. The loss of friends to violence and incarceration, combined with the loss of a family member to gang violence pushed Brown to use art as a source of therapy and to project a positive inspiring image for his community.
Brown’s art coalesces youth culture, art history, fashion, and American consumerism and melds them all to create his unique style. Instantly relatable and recognizable, his cathartic paintings represent contemporary issues as well as a demographic that is traditionally underrepresented in fine art. His works speak to young Americans and inspire a whole new generation of art collectors and admirers.

Style: Farhad Hussain's colourful work that includes drawings and watercolours besides paintings on canvas, features day to day visual experiences of middle-class urban India. He endows his narrative with iconography and personality through his figuration, their posturing, dress and the surrounding imagery. The drama of subtle complexities of human relationships and social environment are grounded with a sense of satire mixed with pathos. Farhad’s colours help enhance the brightness and aura of his paintings while he also partakes elements from traditions such as the formulaic textile patterns of Indian miniatures. His compositions are often set in a familiar drawing room or a social space, playing out with humour and sarcasm, the narrative psychologies of human life and encounters at various levels. This young artist who has also experimented with sculpture has already carved a niche and an instantly recognizable individualistic style befitting his aesthetics and concerns.
Farhad has chosen to use tempera on cloth for his works, the media allowing him to achieve the desired vibrancy of colours. A slow build-up of images and spontaneous flow of colour while balancing colour and composition simultaneously follow structured formatting. This meticulous planning in the composition and layout is the beginning of a process from where onwards it is very spontaneous and intuitive. Another technique used throughout Farhad’s work is the method of applying the colour: dot-by-dot till the entire area is completely covered. Various elements from miniature paintings, Kalighat paintings, Japanese prints and images from mass media are scrutinized, transformed and transferred on to the surface through the artists own style of expression.
