19th century oil on canvas painting of a monk admiring a fish in a glass display cabinet holding a book behind his back, Probably the bible. By the well known artist Frank Hyde . The painting is signed and housed in a gilt moulded frame, The size of the image is 53cm high 35cm wide whilst overall size is 62cm x 79cm In very good condition with no overpainting or restoration to the canvas. There is also a companion piece for sale showing the monk fishing. Discount available for both items bought together. Photos show painting lit and in a natural light. FRANK HYDE (1849 - 1937) Frank Hyde (1849–1937) was a British portrait and figure painter. He was a war artist and portrait painter, best known for his works of Capri. He also created comic characters for greeting cards for Raphael Tuck.
