Brett Eberhardt
Studio Corner and Floor, Brown Wood Floor, White Walls, Art Studio Interior

2018-'20

About the Item

In this interior painting, the corner of a bathroom is slightly visible through the doorway along a white wall in an artist's quiet studio space. The warmth of the worn, paint splattered dark umber brown hardwood floor is masterfully painted with curvilinear perspective. Signed, dated and titled on verso. Brett Eberhardt’s painted interiors are inhabited by singular objects and are vacant of human presence save the reminders in the painted surfaces, worn floor boards or a work table softened by use. Eberhardt’s humble interiors, lushly described in oil paint, depict the well-loved surfaces of his studio and home in a tender, devout manner.

  • Studio 2006, Pointillist Interior Painting, Artist Studio
    Located in Kent, CT
In this pointillist interior scene, an artist's studio is carefully painted in colorful dots in acrylic and gouache on Duralar mounted on panel. Signed and dated on verso. Kirstin Lamb’s gridded, meticulously detailed paintings on transparent acetate are labor-intensive paintings of labor-intensive textiles and patterns. To create these embroidery paintings, Lamb starts by generating a digitized grid and painstakingly painting each individual gridded stitch by hand using acrylic and gouache on a wet media acetate. The process creates a one-to-one relationship of mark to stitch, the act of each brushstroke serving for the stitch of a needle. Lamb’s embroidery paintings draw patterns from French floral wallpaper of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, while others draw inspiration from vintage embroidery patterns...
