About the Item

Layers of color and texture blend into an exciting composition. Michelle Marra, artist, abstract paintings for sale online and in our contemporary art gallery at Wychwood Art. I see in swaths of color, texture and light. I am inspired by the lyrical movement and biomorphic forms in luscious, impasto paint while creating a joyous, spirited feeling. Oftentimes I start a painting with just a few premises, such as color and mark making, to drive where I am to focus next. This allows for a totally free and intuitive process. I took up my brush in earnest in 2010 while spending more time in Florida. I worked in oils and realism but knew I was missing something. Acrylic and abstract painting allow me to give a visual voice to my inner world and creating has become an important part of my life. I count myself extremely lucky to be able to paint daily. • Untitled 0042, Original painting, Atmospheric Art, Industrial North, Romanticism
    Located in Deddington, GB
Inspiration for my work comes from internalised imagery absorbed throughout her childhood in Northumberland and the North East of England. Images of declining industry, the closing of coal mines, abandoned shipyards and other associated heavy industries loomed large across the landscape. The atmosphere of loss, sadness was as palpable as the smell of smoke, tar and coke from the power stations. Philippas work consists of remembered imagery of past landscapes combined with the pastoral landscape in which she lives. The muted palette references the industrial while suggested imagery reflects the rural. Work produced references both worlds combining two genres, marrying post contemporary modernism with elements of classical romanticism. Two genres, two generations of artistic movements intersect with each other, creating a place where contradictions co exist. Disjunctive kinds of everything, hidden in plain sight, create a realm in which one can lose oneself. Implied abstract imagery reveals conflict between beauty and desolation ,whilst Romanticism and Modernism combine with clashing qualities of drawing and painting. Images develop through a series of intuitive acts. Repeated applications of thin films of ink and paint build depth and patina. Layers are often removed by washing and scrubbing, revealing a palimpsest of faded marks and former painterly decisions, exposing the underbelly, vulnerable and tender. Through Philippas current and ongoing line of enquiry several connections are being explored which are both real and notional. The fusing of genres, the industrial and the pastoral which combine elements of classical romanticism and post contemporary modernism, these relate to her past and her present surroundings. Rarely associated elements of drawing and painting are combined on canvas adding to the narrative of her personal story. Work produced displays...

  • I'll Have Pistachio, Abstract Painting, Original Contemporary Art, Patterned Art
    Located in Deddington, GB
This painting is one from a series exploring ideas of layers revealing layers beneath and further beneath again until portals are created in the surface of the work, into its history. This particular one being in pastel shades of light green and pink reminded me of ice cream - hence it's title "I'll have pistachio". Alison is a British contemporary abstract artist...

  • Valentine. Tender love. 70X50 oil, Valentine’s Day gifts art
    Located in Zofingen, AG
In this enchanting oil painting, I've captured the tender essence of love through a romantic bouquet of roses. Every stroke is infused with impassioned energy, embodying fine art and impressionistic flair. The symbolic heart shape formed by the flowers represents a timeless love, exuding a sense of vintage charm and warmth. This artwork carries an uplifting energy that will bring a heartfelt atmosphere into any space, inviting viewers to connect with the enduring beauty of affection. The peculiarity of this work is that I encoded in the painting the text addressed to you: "With love, Elena Lukina."
