About the Item
Layers of color and texture blend into an exciting composition.
Michelle Marra, artist, abstract paintings for sale online and in our contemporary art gallery at Wychwood Art. I see in swaths of color, texture and light. I am inspired by the lyrical movement and biomorphic forms in luscious, impasto paint while creating a joyous, spirited feeling. Oftentimes I start a painting with just a few premises, such as color and mark making, to drive where I am to focus next. This allows for a totally free and intuitive process. I took up my brush in earnest in 2010 while spending more time in Florida. I worked in oils and realism but knew I was missing something. Acrylic and abstract painting allow me to give a visual voice to my inner world and creating has become an important part of my life. I count myself extremely lucky to be able to paint daily.

Michelle Marra
Describing herself as a spirited colorist, Michelle Marra is an American abstract painter who imbues a high level of emotion, energy, and luminosity into her works. Inspired by the great Abstract Expressionists from the late ’40s and early ’50s (Willem de Kooning, Joan Mitchell, and Lee Krasner, to name a few), her “art is about taking color and creating a joyous feeling.” At first, Marra was working in oils and realism, always feeling something was missing. Switching to acrylics and abstraction provided a visual voice to her inner world. She shares her time between her studios in Delray Beach, Florida, Asheville, North Carolina, and Mystic, Connecticut.

- Untitled 0042, Original painting, Atmospheric Art, Industrial North, RomanticismLocated in Deddington, GBInspiration for my work comes from internalised imagery absorbed throughout her childhood in Northumberland and the North East of England. Images of declining industry, the closing of coal mines, abandoned shipyards and other associated heavy industries loomed large across the landscape. The atmosphere of loss, sadness was as palpable as the smell of smoke, tar and coke from the power stations. Philippas work consists of remembered imagery of past landscapes combined with the pastoral landscape in which she lives. The muted palette references the industrial while suggested imagery reflects the rural. Work produced references both worlds combining two genres, marrying post contemporary modernism with elements of classical romanticism. Two genres, two generations of artistic movements intersect with each other, creating a place where contradictions co exist. Disjunctive kinds of everything, hidden in plain sight, create a realm in which one can lose oneself. Implied abstract imagery reveals conflict between beauty and desolation ,whilst Romanticism and Modernism combine with clashing qualities of drawing and painting. Images develop through a series of intuitive acts. Repeated applications of thin films of ink and paint build depth and patina. Layers are often removed by washing and scrubbing, revealing a palimpsest of faded marks and former painterly decisions, exposing the underbelly, vulnerable and tender. Through Philippas current and ongoing line of enquiry several connections are being explored which are both real and notional. The fusing of genres, the industrial and the pastoral which combine elements of classical romanticism and post contemporary modernism, these relate to her past and her present surroundings. Rarely associated elements of drawing and painting are combined on canvas adding to the narrative of her personal story. Work produced displays...Category

The symbolic heart shape formed by the flowers represents a timeless love, exuding a sense of vintage charm and warmth. This artwork carries an uplifting energy that will bring a heartfelt atmosphere into any space, inviting viewers to connect with the enduring beauty of affection. The peculiarity of this work is that I encoded in the painting the text addressed to you: "With love, Elena Lukina."Category
