An Interior of a Hunter Poledne Franz Vienna 1873 – 1932 Austrian Painter Signature: Signed bottom right Medium: Aquarelle Dimensions: Image size 27 x 32,50 cm, frame size 35 x 40,50 cm Biography: Poledne Franz was born on April 10, 1873, in Vienna. He was an Austrian painter and illustrator. As a painter, he produced oils and watercolors and is best known for his views of Vienna. While being still a teenager, he started to work from 1888 until 1893 in the studios of decorator Hermann Burghart. During that time, he attended the drawing school at the Higher Federal Graphical Training and Research Institute and became an illustrator for magazines. From 1907 until his death, he worked for the Illustrierte Kronen Zeitung. In the early 20th century Poledne was one of a group of Austrian painters who created the intimate, nostalgic images of “Old Vienna”, Rudolf von Alt (1812 – 1905), Emil Hütter (1835 – 1886), Franz Kopallik (1860 – 1931), Richard Moser (1874 – 1924) and Erwin Pendl (1875 – 1945). He died following a serious illness on January 7, 1932, in Klosterneuburg, Austria. Today, his works can be found in private and public collections, including at the Wien Museum.

PROVENANCE Private Collector, Seville, Spain José Villegas Cordero (Seville, August 26, 1844-Madrid, November 9, 1921) was a Spanish painter. He directed the Prado Museum between 1901 and 1918. Biography He was the brother of the painter Ricardo Villegas Cordero. He began his apprenticeship very young with José María Romero, with whom he remained for two years until entering the School of Fine Arts in Seville, where he was under the tutelage of Eduardo Cano. In 1860, when he was only 16 years old, he sold his work Little Philosophy for 2,000 reais at the Seville Exhibition. In 1867 he traveled to Madrid, where he entered Federico Madrazo's studio. There he established friendship with painters Eduardo Rosales and Fortuny. He went regularly to the Prado where he copied Velázquez, from whom he acquired spontaneity and the use of color for his technique.
