Alexander Fraser ARSA (1858) RSA (1862) (1828 –1899) was a Scottish landscape painter who is also known as Alexander Fraser the Younger as his father, Alexander George Fraser (1786–1865), was also a Scottish painter. Fraser was the biographer of the Scottish artist, Horatio McCulloch. Alexander Fraser was born at Woodcockdale, near Linlithgow on 3 November 1827 and was baptised on 11 January 1828 at Linlithgow. Fraser's mother was Jessie Moir. His education began in Glasgow but he had most of his schooling at Lanark Grammar School, exhibiting frequently at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts. From there he went on to study art at the Trustees Academy Edinburgh. By the aged of thirty he was already an Associate of the Royal Scottish Academy. He married Jane Duncan on 15 April 1859 in Edinburgh and they had a son and daughter. He died on 24 May 1899 at Musselburgh. According to Edward Pinnington's biography of Fraser, he was brought up at Dunoon on the coast of Argyll, and in an unfinished autobiography, he described his early passion for art: "At an early age I evinced a taste for art, covering every scrap of paper I laid hands on (as indeed most children do) with drawings of horses and boats. When lost — a matter of frequent occurrence — I was usually found at a pit on the seashore, busily modelling in clay, often with a shell lying before me to copy from. Thus early had a taste to work from nature shewn itself." His father's paints, oils, palettes and brushes were "the tools of childhood" and not surprisingly he resolved that "I will be a painter, and nothing else." About 1847, he went to Edinburgh and enrolled at the Trustees' Academy (which later became Edinburgh College of Art) under Thomas Duncan. From 1849-53 he attended the life school of the Royal Scottish Academy. His first commission dates from about 1850. In 1858 he was elected an associate of the Royal Scottish Academy and became an academician in 1862. He took up residence permanently in 1880 where he was doing his best work, most of it being done at the Royal Scottish Academy.

Young Man with Two Dogs in a Landscape - British Edwardian art oil painting
Located in London, GB
This superb British Edwardian figurative landscape oil painting is by noted animal artist Edwin Noble. Painted in 1904 it is a large and detailed painting of a young man, kneeling in a grassy thicket with his two dogs, a lurcher and terrier. He is restraining the dogs whilst his ferret goes down a rabbit hole in the hedgerow. Two dead rabbits are already lying on the grass beside them. Beyond is a county landscape of fields and trees. The young man in his stripped shirt and waistcoat and the two white dogs really stand out in the mass of greenery around them as do the white wild flowers at their feet. The detail and brushwork are superb. This is an excellent example of Edwin Noble's work as an animal painter in the Edwardian period and also depicts country pursuits. Signed and dated Edwin Noble 04 lower right. Provenance. From the collection of Derek Parker and Peter Wynne Morris, Interior designers, antique dealers and collectors over sixty years. Condition. Oil on canvas. Image size 50 inches by 40 inches and in good condition. Frame. Housed in a complementary frame, 54 inches by 44 inches and in good condition. John Edwin Noble (1876-1961). Towering clouds drift lazily over an island, creating a sense of awe and tranquility. Inspired by artist Kat Bergman's time spent on the North Shore of Oahu, this piece captures the quiet isolation and beauty of the landscape. The composition invites the viewer to imagine themselves on a secluded beach immersed in the peaceful rhythm of nature. The artwork comes with a natural wood frame.

About the Artist
Artist Kat Bergman paints landscapes and natural scenes in a realistic style, often infused with serenity and tranquility. "With each piece, there is always some extent of self-discovery and healing that occurs," says Kat. She channels deep human emotion in her work, capturing beauty, sorrow, and resilience through her art. After raising two sons as a single mother and building a career as a Quality Director in the electronics industry, she retired in 2015 to pursue painting full-time. She works in her home studio, a dedicated space within her large garage, which she keeps mostly tidy. When not creating, Kat enjoys reading, baking, and working on a cookbook.
