About the Item

Large and expressive, this contemporary mid-century impressionistic Belgian oil painting is titled 'Moulin Flanders', signed and dated 1956. Painted with thick brushstrokes in shades of tan, brown, beige, conch, warm white, russet and sage green. The nearly impasto paint outlines the windmill, traditional house, sailboat and figures. Painted in trending brown and cinnamon tones in a perfect size over the sofa or dominating the hall entry. A true designer choice, mid century contemporary in an impressionist expressive style of a classic landscape. Signed Alfred Van Neste (1874-1969) lower right, with the artist name, painting title and date 1956 verso. Alfred (Joseph Auguste) Van Neste was born in Bruges, Belgium in 1874. He studied under artist Van Acker for five years, still a youth, before attending art school. He is known for village scenes along the famous canals, painting migrating birds and his work in Art Nouveau illustrations for books and magazines. This is a truly an outstanding piece by Van Neste, oil painting on fiber board, in a large size. Presently unframed, the original traditional frame for this painting is available. However, a contemporary frame to complement your setting may be preferred. The fiber board has some flexibility and needs to be fitted in a frame.
