Remembering the forest of his childhood in Norway, Von Morisse extended his longing for Nature in his “Forest” series with Autumnal colors. There, the freedom of the children roaming into the wilderness is felt throughout the picture. The artist evoques his state of mind, reminiscent of his childhood in Norway and remembers nostalgically the “happy days” of freedom and cheerfulness running in the forrest near Finskogen with his cousin Thomas. A memory from the past which von Morisse rendered in the tradition of his predecessor and fellow Norwegian: Edvard Munch.
Edvard Munch (1863-1944) was the greatest Norwegian painter. His brushstroke technique and color palettes continued to veer between naturalistic and impressionistic, hints at the simplified forms, heavy outlines, sharp contrasts, and emotional content of his mature style to come. While stylistically influenced by the Post-Impressionists, what evolved was a subject matter which was symbolist in content, depicting a state of mind rather than an external reality.
Andre von Morisse is a conceptual painter, interested in exploring aspects of human psychology and how we interact with the world. His works were featured in many group shows in galleries and museums in the US: Kunstnerenes Hus Oslo, Norway; The Gibbes Museum of Art, Charleston, SC; Mobile Museum of Art, Mobile, AL; Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, Wausau, WI; Museum of Southwest Texas, Midland, TX ; Art Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi, TX. In 2005, Von Morisse was the recipient of the Best New Contemporary Artists Award 2005, at the Kunstnerenes Hus Museum, Oslo, Norway.
Von Morisse work is held in prominent museum and private collections in the United States.

ANDRE VON MORISSE (Norwegian, b. 1966 in Oslo, Norway, lives and works in the US) Von Morisse is a conceptual painter, interested in exploring aspects of human psychology and how we interact with the world. With his work End of a New Dawn, reviewed by Jonathan Goodman in Art in America (Oct. 2005, p.180), he was the Winner of the Best New Contemporary Artists Award 2005 at the Kunstnerenes Hus Museum in Oslo, Norway. End of a New Dawn explores relationship between painting and photography “reversing" the traditional roles of the two mediums by using paintings as the starting point for an elaborate and intricate photographic process. Andre von Morisse was born in Oslo, Norway in 1966 and came to America in 1978. In 1990, he graduated cum laude from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA and moved to New York in 1991. His works were featured in many group shows in galleries and museums in the US: Kunstnerenes Hus Oslo, Norway; The Gibbes Museum of Art, Charleston, SC; Mobile Museum of Art, Mobile, AL; Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, Wausau, WI; Museum of Southwest Texas, Midland, TX ; Art Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi, TX. He had solo exhibitions with Silas Von Morisse Gallery (2016 & 2018), McKenzie Fine Art (2005 & 2003), and James Graham and Sons (2000, 1997) in New York, NY. “Plein-Air” is the French expression to describe the act of painting in situ within the landscape, capturing the ever changing weather and light with tonal qualities, colour, loose brushwork and softness of form... The practice of “Plein Air Painting” goes back for centuries but was truly made into an art form by the French Impressionists such as Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir who were advocating of plein air painting. Much of their work was done outdoors in the diffuse light of a large white umbrella. Another major proponent of Plein Air was Jean Baptiste Camille Corot whom Claude Monet considered as “The only One Master here”. Corot provides a transition from the sharp academic style that ruled in his day with focus on the natural world and the lyrical expressiveness of one's work. With her "Plein Air Paintings", Jane Chapin is part of one of the largest art movements in history. Her paintings carry human emotions. We can read her moods and feelings with places that carry deep remembrances for the artist that go beyond the descriptive.
