About the Item

Title: British Impressionist Watercolor of Rolling Hills and Open Sky Landscape by Anthony Avery (British 1946-2023) Original watercolor on artists paper, unframed Dimensions: 11 x 15.5 inches (Height x Width) Condition: Good, with some minor signs of aging. Provenance: from a large collection of this artists work, held in England. Description: This evocative landscape captures the tranquil beauty of a French countryside, where rolling hills blend seamlessly with expansive skies. The artist skillfully employs a warm color palette, using earthy tones to bring the gentle slopes to life, while soft green hues highlight the rich, fertile fields stretching out towards the distant hills. The composition is anchored by a trio of gently rising peaks, their forms softened by the delicate light, suggesting the peacefulness of early morning or late afternoon. The artist’s use of light and shadow breathes depth into the scene, with scattered trees casting subtle shadows across the fields below. The sky, painted in soft blues and muted whites, mirrors the calm atmosphere, with billowing clouds that seem to drift lazily over the landscape. This piece transports the viewer to a serene countryside, celebrating the untouched beauty of rural France and offering a sense of calm and timelessness. This painting would make a perfect addition for those who cherish the elegance of natural landscapes and the quiet majesty of open skies.
