About the Item
Surreal Anthony Martin landscape painting of a Lonely Mirror in a Field in egg tempura. The bright and airy field contrasts with the dark, bulky mirror to give the painting an uneasy tone, common to the surreal style. Currently hung in a black and brown wooden frame. Signed and dated in the bottom right corner.
Artist Biography: William Anzalone was educated in Brooklyn Public Schools and graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a BA in Architecture in 1958. He won the Rotch Prize in Architecture in 1958 and practiced architecture in Massachusetts from 1958-1959. Anzalone came to Houston, Texas in July 1959, and began teaching at the University of Houston. He also taught briefly at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston School. William Anzalone has had many one man shows and group shows in Texas, Massachusetts, and New York.

Anthony V. Martin
Anthony V. Martin grew up in east Texas. He graduated from Cleveland High School in 1960. He is known for using the medium egg tempera in his landscapes and architectural paintings. Pebworth describes his technique as "primitive realism." His works have been shown in galleries in Dallas, Houston, Austin and El Paso, among other prominent cities. Anthony is now retired and lives in Paris, Texas.
