Léon BRARD (1830-1902)
Léon Brard born Léon Antoine Brard on 20 February 1830 in Caen and died on 13 August 1902 in Tours. French painter and ceramist.
Born in Caen, Léon Brard moved to Tours in 1859. A disciple of Charles-Jean Avisseau, he shared with Auguste François Chauvigné the fact that he had first been a painter before producing ceramics.3 It is influenced by 18th century art and produces patronymic plates or trompe l'oeil dishes in the taste of that era. He also tried out Hispano-Moorish and revolutionary subjects. It has the particularity of having combined techniques of colored enamels with tin.
