Camille MAGNUS
Camille Magnus, Forest Landscape With Cattle, Oil Painting

c. 1890

About the Item

This late 19th-century oil painting by French artist Camille Magnus (1853-1894) depicts a picturesque forest landscape with cattle taking water at a pond. Towering birch trees guide the eye towards a distant wandering figure. Camille Magnus (Camille Magnus Deutz) was a proficient painter of landscapes, particularly views in the forest of Fontainebleau. He trained under Narcisse Díaz de la Peña and his works were shown at the Paris Salon. Note the confidently applied reflections in the pond and the masterful handling of the leaves. Signed in the lower right and framed. Provenance: Private collection, Germany.
