Carl Thorp
Carl Thorp was an American artist who became known for Impressionist landscapes of California, sometimes referred to as California Scene Painting, as well as New York City, Boston and New Orleans Cityscapes. He was born in Lubbock, Texas in 1912. Active in California between 1928–57, Thorp studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in San Diego with Maurice Braun and Alfred Mitchell. He was a member of the Society of Western Artists and the Northern California Artist Association. Thorp continued his work and teaching in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the French Quarter until 1975, when he moved to Franklinton, Louisiana. Thorp spent summers painting in Rockport, Massachusetts and always showed at the Annual Washington Square Arts Show in New York City. In Franklinton, he maintained a studio and taught until he died in 1989.
