About the Item

Charles Bertie Hall (Anglo-American, 20th/21st Century) Statue of Liberty, New York Harbor Oil on board, signed lower right, from the artist’s studio Presented in a new hand-made English contemporary frame This evocative painting by Charles Bertie Hall captures the Statue of Liberty rising proudly from its pedestal in New York Harbor, its iconic silhouette framed against a soft, atmospheric sky. Hall’s impressionistic brushwork conveys the movement of the surrounding waters, painted in silvery blues and greys, while sailboats in the distance add scale and a sense of quiet rhythm to the composition. Signed at the lower right and from the artist’s studio, this work demonstrates Hall’s ability to blend immediacy with poise, translating one of America’s most enduring symbols into a painterly vision alive with atmosphere. His palette here is restrained yet luminous, evoking both the grandeur of the monument and the serenity of the harbor waters. Presented in a new hand-made English contemporary frame, the painting is a fine example of Hall’s international perspective as an Anglo-American painter, uniting a distinctly impressionistic style with subjects that resonate across cultures.

After graduating, he had an active career traveling across the United States and Canada performing in operas and concerts, before joining the voice faculty at his alma mater in 1910.
