About the Item
An idyllic painting of the bustling Seine river in Paris, by French artist Charles Cobelle. Cobelle was an accomplished French artist who studied under Marc Chagall and Raoul Dufy. Using the skills he honed in his apprenticeships with the masters, he developed a dedicated practice of capturing a million fleeting glimpses of Paris in bright colors and bold line work. This scene looks from one bank, likely the north bank near the Trocadero Gardens, across to the Eiffel tower and the homes lining the river.
