Charles Rollo Peters: 1862-1928. Well listed California painter with auction results over $57,000. He was born in San Francisco but spent much of his adult life in Monterey. He is best known for these spectacular tonalist nocturnal scenes of the Monterey area. He was greatly influenced by Whistler. Whistler supposedly commented that Rollo Peters was the only artist beside himself that could paint nocturnal scenes. This fresh to the market gem is an oil on panel measuring 6 1/4 inches high by 9 1/2 wide. The frame measures 13 1/8 inches high by 16 1/2.
