Elbridge KingsleyElbridge Kingsley 19th Century Tonalist Landscape
About the Item
Elbridge Kingsley: 1842-1918. Listed American artist whose paintings are very rare. He was born in Carthage Ohio and moved to Hatfield Massachusetts as an infant. He ended up becoming a successful wood engraver printing a lot of George Inness and Albert Pinkham Ryder paintings. I read that he became good friends with Inness and they would paint outdoors together. You can definitely see an Inness influence on this tonalist gem. It is an oil on board probably done in the late 1800s or early 20th century. Frame measures 21 inches wide by 17 high and is not original to the painting but is a perfect fit for this piece.
