About the Item
Abstract oil painting on canvas and resin. This bright piece has a lot of depth, literally! The layers of paint and resin are built upon each other, the upper layers casting shadows below. The glossy resin creates a reflective surface that takes on part of the environment it is hung in. This piece is one of many unique studies Darius has done on the topic of Monet's Waterlilies, making his own statement in his individual style. The epoxy resin plays an interesting roll in this piece, as if it were actually water, creating a sense of dimension. Willow branches enter the composition from above painted with heavy swaths of paint, lily pads painted in dark purples, teals and kelly green floating on the surface of the "water". Delicate ripples painted in pale yellows, purples and green across the resin create the feeling of movement. Shades of ocher, Naples yellow and pale robins egg blue painted under the resin give the impression of pond water reflecting a bright blue sky.

Darius Yektai was born in Southampton NY, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. He grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American Mother, and his Father, Manoucher Yektai, an Iranian who emigrated to the US after the Second World War, was a prominent Hamptons AbEx painter. Darius has picked up some traits from his father but pushes even further into what is now completely his-own.
Darius' most recent body of work is bright, colorful, with oil and acrylic paints laid on thick. He's creating sculptural paintings that can't be read from left to right, they need to be examined from surface to base, from section to section, and then overall as an encompassing whole.

Darius Yektai
Darius Yektai was born in Southampton, New York, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. Darius grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American mother and his father, Manoucher Yektai, an Iranian who emigrated to the United States after the Second World War. Manoucher was a prominent Hamptons Abstract Expressionist painter. Darius has picked up some traits from his father but pushes even further into what is now completely his own.
Darius’s most recent body of work is bright and colorful, with oil and acrylic paints laid on thickly. He's creating sculptural paintings that can't be read from left to right — they need to be examined from surface to base, from section to section, and then, overall, as an encompassing whole.
