About the Item
Abstract cloudscape painting of a white cloud over a black country landscape
"Black Dirt", painted by David Konigsberg in 2019
23 x 24 inches
Ready to hang, sides are painted white so framing is not necessary
Wire backing for installation
This modern landscape painting of a gesturally painted white cloud in a neutral colored sky was painted by Hudson, NY based artist, David Konigsberg. Here the artist uses the classic Hudson Valley landscape as a backdrop for the lofty cumulus cloud that blankets a dark horizon. Paint is applied in smooth gestural layers, creating a soft and atmospheric effect. The landscape oil painting is completed on wood panel and has sturdy wire on the back for install installation.
About the artist and work:
David Konigsberg shares a renewed reverence for his surroundings in the Hudson Valley, where he has made his home for the past four years. Known for a conceptual realism that has, in the past, used landscape as a backdrop—and everything from angels to fantastical flying machines as characters and metaphors—with this series the artist moves the backdrop forward, in paintings that are more frankly personal and quietly revealing. An avid hiker, Konigsberg draws from long walks in farm country and frequent climbs among the peaks of the nearby Catskills and Taconics. Still, while his references are specific to the region, these paintings transcend location to enter a realm that is tranquil, deeply spiritual and universal.
Beyond subject matter, the magic of the work can be found in Konigsberg’s handling of paint, in both the gestural brushwork that propels his characters and the use of layers to create illusions—for example, of haze or morning mist in an environment filled with atmospheric drama.
David Konigsberg is a conceptual realist who works across media and painting genres to portray transitional spaces, metaphoric moments and alternative histories. A long-time member of the Gowanus and Red Hook artist communities in Brooklyn, he is now based in Hudson and employs the area's landscapes as the setting and sometimes subject of his work.
The artist’s work has been exhibited throughout out the United States and has been featured in The New York Times, Chronogram and Brooklyn Journal and numerous art and culture blogs. David Konigsberg lives and works in Hudson, New York.

Opening Farm (Encaustic Monochromatic Pastoral Landscape in Earth Tones & White)
By Leigh Palmer
Located in Hudson, NY
Encaustic on board
10 x 12 inches
This monochromatic encaustic landscape on board was created by Hudson Valley-based artist Leigh Palmer. Once a hard edge realist painter, the artist eschews those details, letting the stroke of his brush and moody palette leave an abstract implication of the landscape. The main image is bordered by white to give the impression of a window.
About the artist:
In the Openings series, Palmer integrates the frame into the painting. This element contributes to the narrative, suggesting the viewer is inside looking out. We are not a part of the landscape, rather we are a peaceful witnesses to nature that will transcend even our own existence and continue to change with the seasons long after we have passed. We are romanced by Leigh Palmer's unique ability to pare down and find the true essence of the landscape, gently veiled through his own soul. We are proud to have exhibited his work since the inception of Carrie Haddad Gallery in 1991.
Today, the artist continues to work with both encaustic and oil paint. He is currently developing a new series in his studio right across the street from the gallery. We hope to reveal his new work to the public sometime in 2021.
Artist Statement:
My paintings are based on observation of the landscape in the Hudson River Valley where I live, and are improvised in the studio; the images are found or discovered in my memory of familiar places and developed during the painting process. Human beings do not appear, but their presence is felt in the marks left on the ground (furrows, fence rows, roads), and sometimes in the air (smoke, haze).
About the artist:
In 1987, Leigh Palmer moved with his family from suburban Duxbury, Massachusetts, to Tivoli, New York, a quiet town on the Hudson River, north of New York City. His subject matter shifted to the sprawling hills and countryside of the Hudson Valley. “I wanted to respond to the new landscape I was seeing, to catch something of the feeling I had just before dark,” says Palmer. “I took a lot of photographs, but I was happier with the paintings I created from memory.”
Leigh Palmer has been represented by Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, NY for over 25 years.

Opening No. 50 (Abstract Landscape Painting on Canvas in Romanticist Style)
By Leigh Palmer
Located in Hudson, NY
Contemporary, abstracted landscape reminiscent of Hudson River School & Romanticist painters
oil on canvas
40 x 48 inches
Romantic (yet modern) Hudson River oil landscape painting of a vast field in the foreground with a red and blue sunset sky in the background. This painting is of a horizontal orientation and is finished with an olive green border painted directly onto the canvas. The edges are finished with the same color, so no additional frame required here.
Once a hard edge realist painter, the artist eschews those details, letting the stroke of his brush and moody palette leave an abstract implication of the landscape.

Clara Berta’s art is deeply personal, often reflecting themes of grief, renewal, and transformation. Her creative journey began as a means of healing and has since evolved into a language of exploration and growth. Inspired by the passage of time, personal heritage, and the balance between destruction and rebuilding, Berta creates artworks that resonate with emotional depth and universal human experiences.
Her abstract pieces often draw from her travels, featuring unexpected patterns and distorted perspectives. Through her meticulous layering process, Berta manipulates texture and form, producing works that are both visually engaging and emotionally evocative. By blending minimalism with rich textures, she bridges the gap between modernism and personal storytelling.
A passionate, award-winning artist of Hungarian heritage, Clara Berta's dynamic and highly textural abstract works have been exhibited and collected worldwide.
