About the Item

Work : Original Acrylicr Painting, Unique Work. Handmade artwork. Ready to Hang. Medium : Watercolor on Archival paper Artist : Deniz Bayav Subject : Réunir à la surface (Title) With Réunir à la Surface, Deniz Bayav invites us into a quiet moment of contemplation, where reality dissolves into reflection. Bare, interwoven branches stretch across the water’s surface like an organic map, while a few fallen leaves float—silent remnants of a bygone autumn. The work, marked by subtle yet assured technical mastery, plays with contrasts between matter and illusion, between the blur of reflection and the sharpness of grass. Bayav captures that fleeting instant when the tangible world seems to waver, urging the eye to wander in order to truly see. This is a painting of thresholds—between sky and earth, between figuration and abstraction—where the surface becomes depth. Signature : The work is signed and dated on verso Work Size : H 18.11 X W 13 inches - H 46 x W 32cm. Frame : Framed in 50 x 40cm classic frame, with Museum matting included. ___ To learn more about this work, please contact us via the 1stdibs messaging system. Deniz Bayav was born in 1980 in Merzifon, Turkey. She lives and works in France. After finishing her licence at the University of Marmara (Istanbul) in the Fine Arts Education/Painting Department, she pursued her Master and PhD studies in the same university while working more specifically on painting and printmaking. She is a professor at Trakya University Painting Department in Edirne. She has been teaching painting, printmaking and drawing at this university since 2006. During the 2018-2019 academic year she worked as a “visiting professor” at Paris 8 University Department of Visual Arts in France. She is working as a “visiting professor” at the Higher School of Art Dunkerque-Tourcoing in the 2023-2024 academic year. _____ I have been working on the notion of opposition both in my paintings and engravings. When we have a look at my different series from the past to the present, this opposition is sometimes achieved through obvious contrasts of the different values of the colors, sometimes with light-dark areas, sometimes by distinct texture contrasts or opposing concepts: Existence and nonexistence, birth and death, organic and inorganic, fresh and faded… Leaves, feathers, eggs, bitten apples and rotting fruits always carry marks that point to the beginning and the end. Thus, it establishes links with “vanitas” and “memento mori” in art history. In my daily life, in my nature walks, I always search for effects, objects and organisms that remind me of this opposition and cycle and I transfer some of them to my works. This cycle and “eternal return” are treated in Thus Spoke Zarathustra as follows: “Everything goes, everything comes back; the wheel of being rolls eternally. Everything dies, everything blossoms again, the year of being runs eternally.”

Photorealism is a genre of art that encompasses painting, drawing and other graphic media. An American art movement that began in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Photorealism evolved from Pop Art as a counter to Abstract Expressionism as well as Minimalist art movements. Though Photorealists share some aspects of American realists, such as Edward Hopper, they tried to set themselves as much apart from traditional realists as they did Abstract Expressionists. Photorealists were much more influenced by the work of Pop artists and were reacting against Abstract Expressionism. The word Photorealism was coined by Louis K. Meisel in 1969 and appeared in print for the first time in 1970 in a Whitney Museum catalogue for the show "Twenty-two Realists." It is also sometimes labeled as Super-Realism, New Realism, Sharp Focus Realism...

Pond Calligraphy
By David Kessler
Located in Phoenix, AZ
acrylic on brushed aluminum b. 1950, Teaneck, New Jersey One of the most powerful tools an artist possesses is an ability to bridge the gap between what is considered real and what is illusion. This ability to alter or enhance reality is the very crux of what an artist is all about, and their success at attaining this is usually the defining element as to their stature in the field, as either an abstract or realist painter. Occasionally a painter is able to combine these two distinct disciplines and create an art form, which holds a viewer’s attention by balancing the paradox of the flat painted surface with the illusion of depth and space. "As a painter, it is important for me to address the concerns of painting what has been done-and what can I add to this. My work on aluminum is an attempt to use the qualities of refracted light, and have these qualities interact with the painting. The completed image is produced both by refracted light, created by the use of various wire brushes and paint airbrushed in transparent layers. Within this process about half of the image is produced by refracted light alone, simulating paint, and about half by paint." For over twenty years, David Kessler followed a Photo-Realist tradition, often depicting the Arizona desert landscape...

The Earth’s diverse surface is fascinating. The vegetative environments invite viewers to visit a place. Local light and atmosphere affect the plant life that thrives, the colors we see and experience of mood and energy. These botanical paintings explore memory and landscape with complex spatial environments that hover between painterly realism and abstract passages. Throughout the long tradition of landscape painting, there exists a connection between the artist and the natural world. A painter can evoke this relationship through the use of color, value and line whether the painting is representational or abstracted. These elements combine and intertwine to create rhythms of perspective and dimension, illuminating this personal vision on canvas. Yupo paper is waterproof, and stands up to the rigors of the elements and demanding environments. Ultra-smooth and bright white, it's a paper alternative that stands out. Bio Julie...
