About the Item

Fine painting by renowned and award-winning Scottish artist Duncan Cameron of his favorite subject, the haystacks in autumn with the scenic Scottish countryside as a backdrop. Signed and dated 1879 on lower left, this is a 19th century oil on canvas landscape painting in the best of the artist's ouevre, in the prime of Cameron’s career. In 1876 Cameron won a Gold Medal for landscape at the Crystal Palace exhibition. The year after this painting Cameron began exhibiting in the Royal Academy and Royal Scottish Academy. His haystack and cornfield paintings are his most celebrated genre. Given the timing it is highly likely this work would have been included in exhibits from 1880 onward. Cameron was born in the picturesque region of Perthshire. He was educated first in Dundee and then in South Kensington, London. His work has appeared in gallery exhibitions throughout the UK. Cameron returned to Edinburgh where he died on 1916. Saltire Gallerie acquired this painting in Scotland and imported this to Hillsborough, North Carolina. This is being sold without a frame, leaving buyers to choose the frame that fits their home or office. The gilt liner inset is intact. The price reflects the need for a frame, rather than charging for a new frame that may or may not suit all buyers. They style is listed as naturalistic but could be described as impressionist with the treatment of the haystacks and light. Presented in good condition, ready to be hung with your frame!
