About

'Crossing the Stour' by Edmund Morison Wimperis RI RBA (1835-1900). A large 19th century oil on canvas of a horse and cart and cattle watering on the River Stour in Suffolk. The painting is signed by the artist and dated 1896, and hangs in a very good quality gold metal leaf frame. As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in the finest condition it can be for its age, having just been professionally cleaned and re-varnished. Clients should also note that fully insured, tracked and signed for international shipping is complimentary. Wimperis exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour. He was elected a full Member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1870 and a full Member of the Royal Oil Painters Institute in 1893, becoming its Vice President two years later. Works by Wimperis are held in the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
