This oil on canvas painting depicts a pastoral scene. The painting assumes as its subject a form of landscape present in much of the art of the previous century, the pastoral modality in which the landscape is composed is Italian, executed in the manner of artists such as Paolo Monaldi and Nicolaes Berchem.
Two women walk around giving food to the chickens, children play in the hay lying on the cart pulled by oxen, other women look after the younger children in the shade of the cottage.
The color palette is soft, the hue is a product of the low and grazing light that bathes the scene.
