VIEW OF NAPLES -Posillipo School - Italian Landscape Oil on Canvas Painting

2004

About the Item

VIEW OF NAPLES - Oil on oval canvas cm.30x50 by Ettore Ferrante, Italy 2004 Gold gilded wooden frame cm.48x68 In this wonderful view of the Gulf of Naples the painter E. Ferrante was inspired by the masters of the Posillipo School, including Antonio Pitloo and Giacinto Gigante, who used the scene of the “marina” as a pretext to portray an idyllic landscape. The soft light of dawn or sunset envelops everything; the sea is calm and the city seems to rest lying on its Gulf, under the watchful eye of a benign volcano. In short, the Posillipo School is one of the highest moments of Italian Romanticism.
