Francesco Tammaro
"Park Scene" Parisian Impressionistic Oil Painting of Figures by the Riverside

Mid-20th Century

About the Item

Francesco Tammaro was born in Naples in 1939 where he attended the Instituto D'Arte di Napoli, one of the most reputed Fine Art schools in Italy. Shortly after graduation he traveled to France where he lived for a few years. This piece was executed during his stay in Paris where he packed much detail through out. Figures are portrayed with utmost detail, as you can feel the time of this piece effortlessly. We are instantly drawn back to the time of the 20th Century effortlessly as we discover all the incredible details. Couples walk the path, as another couple fishes on the lake, and horse and carriage are scene in the distance. Tammaro is best know for his characteristic views of Paris, the famous cafes of Paris, interior Bistros as well as his pastoral picnic scenes on the banks of the Seine. The painting is a pertinent example of this, as he championed his brushwork with much fascination and love for the city of lights. This piece is signed lower right by the artist and it also bears the registry number on the reverse, it comes housed in a beautiful French giltwood gold tone frame and hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed. Art measures 11 x 13.5 inches Frame measures 15 x 17 inches Tammaro was nominated "Academician of Italy" in 1978 and awarded a gold medal by the Academy of Italy of Salsomaggiore. The academy also dedicated an entire color page to him in the "Great Dictionary of Contemporary Italian Artists." In the same year, one of his 20 x 24 oil paintings entitled, The Farmer's House was sold at auction in New York for $10,000. A small but curious detail, one which must have brought great pleasure to the artist, is that the owner of the painting had a tavern rebuilt in his house exactly as Tammaro had portrayed it in his painting. With his paintings, this Neapolitan artist magically transports viewers back to times past. As one looks at his paintings, one forgets that it is the early 21 Century. The viewer suspects that he has escaped the now and has gently been carried back to the sights of old Naples and France at the turn of the previous century. HIs subject matter is accurate and perfectly painted. His colors are well modulated, creating haunting nuances of earlier, grander days. His paintings are alive and vibrant, yet there is always a comfortable serenity that permeates his subjects. Often, he spends his summer holiday in France, and in particular in Paris, where he finds inspiration for some of his works. During his artistic career he has participated in many cultural events and has held collective and one-man exhibitions in the most important art center cities in Italy, Florence, Rome, Sienna, Venice and Assisi. He has also participated in collective exhibitions abroad in Paris, London Helsinki and Vienna. Collectors in Italy, the rest of Europe and the Americas seek his paintings. PROVENANCE: W.T.
