About the artist.
François Salvat was born in 1892 in Amélie baths where his father, a wood carver, had a workshop on rue Castellane. Very young, he became interested in painting and returned to the School of Fine Arts in Toulouse, then to Cormon's studio in Paris. His first paintings, Catalan inspired, or even exclusively Vallespirienne, date from the 1920's. Then his artistic tastes turn to, the island of France, Greece, Venice, which bring him recognition. Director of artistic services at Grasset for 30 years, François Salvat died in November 1974 and is buried in Argenville in Beauce.
