About the Item

A superb pastoral oil painting by British listed artist Frederick George Swaish and painted in 1923. He was a noted British artist of the inter war period and a regular exhibitor at the major British art institutions. This large Art Deco Post-Impressionist painting depicts an end of day pastoral scene with the hay being brought in on a horse drawn cart. Various labourers and a mother and child walk along side the cart. Beyond is a landscape beneath a full moon. The brushwork and colouring are lovely. An excellent example of Swaish's work and this superb pastoral oil painting is finished off in a lovely Bourlet panelled exhibition ebonised and silver frame. Signed right Swaish 1923. Provenance. Devon collection. Royal Academy labels verso. Condition. Oil on canvas, image size 44 inches by 38 inches and in fine gallery condition. Housed in a Bourlet gallery frame in excellent condition, 51 inches by 45 inches framed. Frederick George Swaish (Exhib. 1909-1927). Portrait and landscape painter who lived near Guildford in 1907.
