Landscape river and barn _ from Georges Gratigny
Georges Gratigny was a French painter from XIX -XX. (1881-1970) Normandy
He was member of the society of Normans painters.
There are influence in his art of his friends André Hardy and Paul Emile Pissaro
Structural Analysis :
It is an Impressionist landscape. The subject of the composition is a farm with thatched roof surrounding a pond, typical building from Normandy.
The sky is reminiscent of Claude Monet's painting "Impression soleil levant" which blue and grey tone contrast with the salmon pink color. But...where is the sun? from orange thatched roof?
The composition and perspectives are more complex than they seem. It's also a geometrical painting, composed with several triangles. (see image)
Color analysis:
The sky is heavy with mass of grey and blue tones contrasts with complementary color orange and yellow tones of the house.
Also there is a delimitation in the painting in terms of colors, like a border between light orange colors of the thatched roof house and the dark green garden.
Technique: oil on canvas 46x55cm / 18,1x21.6 inch
with gold/blue frame: 59x68,5cm / 23,2x 27 inch
Thickness: 4cm
It is signed _ "G Gratigny" On the front of the artwork and the back.
Condition : good condition - NO CRACKS, colors are vivid for a painting from 1935. There is a stamp from Blanchet (art supply) in Paris
