About the Item

For sale is this painting that captures the essence of a bustling park, various individuals are depicted strolling along verdant pathways under the shade of towering trees. The artist's brushstrokes skillfully depict the lively scene, with each figure seemingly in motion. Among the vibrant colors and fluid lines, men are dressed in well-tailored suits, intriguing contrast amidst the serene surroundings. The scene emanates a sense of harmonious coexistence between man and nature. Spat, born in Kishinev, Russia, was a renowned artist who lived in France from 1919 to 1942 and the USA from 1942. He studied at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Geneva and Paris' Académie Colarossi. Spat was known for his portraits of celebrated figures and anti-German satirical drawings depicting Nazi society. He spent most of his career in France, painting small oil and watercolor figural works and scenes of leisure life. Spat fled to the south of France during the German army occupation of Paris in 1940, but returned two years later. Spat escaped occupied France in 1943 and arrived in the United States in 1945. He continued to paint Parisian scenes using loose brushwork and bright colors, a style critics described as "impressionist."
