About the Artist:
Gen Paul (Eugène Paul, 1895–1975) was a French Expressionist painter and lithographer known for his vibrant, energetic depictions of Parisian life, musicians, and cityscapes. Born in Montmartre, Paris, Paul grew up surrounded by the bohemian art scene, which heavily influenced his work. He began painting in the 1920s, often drawing from the lively atmosphere of Montmartre and the post-World War I cultural revival. Though he initially experimented with Impressionism and Cubism, Paul developed a dynamic style characterized by bold brushstrokes and intense emotion, making him one of the key figures of 20th-century French Expressionism. Despite suffering a leg amputation during World War I, he continued to produce art throughout his life, leaving a lasting impact on modern art.
