Late 20th Century

$7,900

About

George Nemethy finds his inspiration in moments of quiet and solitude. Where he finds himself one with the sea and the sky and the tranquil world which he freely escapes to. Trained from an early age by his father Albert Nemethy, a world-renowned painter known best for his large scale steamer boats, George found and nurtured his passion for miniature sailboats early in his life. This passion translates beautifully into his sought after sails on the sea, where so many are captivated by the absolute tranquility of his pastoral waves and puffed clouds. George creates these fine jewels with a surreal motivation, aimed to breathe a uniqueness in every work by use of color combinations and highlights from the sun. We are enthralled by the finite details which surprises and delights, exploring these canvases with magnifying glasses, discovering just the utmost care into detail that truly has us all in awe. From the effortless shadows to the finest details of the tiny people that sail these magical boats, George has packed so much into just this 9.8 x 8-inch canvas board, that will have you smiling and enjoying every inch instantly. This painting is in excellent condition, displayed in a beautiful gold-bronze color wood guilt frame and signed lower right. Art measures 9.8 x 8 in Frame measures 17 x 14.75 in EXHIBITION HISTORY: Palm Beach Modern and Contemporary. January 10-13, 2019. With an outstanding legacy of his father Albert Nemethy of marine art, George keeps the marine tradition in his own artistic way. Recreating these wonderful marine depictions in a much more abstracted and whimsical way. His dedication to master a magical realism instantly takes the viewer to a point in time where all the senses meet and only one thought would exist. George’s peaceful "dream-like qualities" miniature works allows us to take a deep breath and reach out to the beautiful vastness of the world in an unprecedented a magical relationship between man and nature. Born in 1952 in Newburgh, New York. The Nemethy family immigrated from Hungary and consisted of six artists, all pupils of their late father Albert Sz. Nemethy. The children Julien, Albert Jr., George, Veronica, and the twins Kristina and Georgina. All of them were taught and inspired by their respected father, an American tradition and well-groomed marine painter of high regard. George, as a pupil of his late father, became an artist through his inspiration and teachings. Today George is celebrated for his pastoral miniature sailboat oil paintings. As a 20th century artist, he was greatly inspired when he was young by Persian miniatures. Out of this fondness and extensive studying of these models, a devotion to intimacy and solitude was born. Devoting extreme patience to detail, achieving mastery to each and every work with his use of color and scale. Creating pastel hues across the waters with shimmering highlights, and puffed clouds pulling down to the sea, there is magic being created. In his pieces, we can find all the qualities that so many are in love with, and the reason why his paintings are sought after by elite collectors, sailors, and curators. His dreamy puffed clouds that are so effortlessly contrasted with the majestic blues in his sky and water, piece together this absolutely breathtaking work. What creates an even more shocking and delightful surprise is, in almost every sailboat painting, if you look closely enough you will find tiny people depicted in the sailboat. In this piece, you will find two people sitting about. His extreme attention to detail, and his fixation on miniatures when he was a child is what establishes such a wonderful enchantment to every single one of his masterful sailboat paintings. When critics refer to his work, they write on his sincere ability to achieve pure tranquillity in his paintings. PROVENANCE: Lilac Gallery Collection. This original artwork includes a Certificate of Authenticity issued by the Gallery. The piece will be stamped from Lilac Gallery on its verso.
