Gorgeous oil painting of sedimentary rocks forming layered strata in a desert scene done in red tones by George Shackelford. Signed in the lower corner. Additional artist information on reverse. Framed in complimentary brown wooden frame. Dimensions Without Frame: H 18 in. x W 22 in. x D .75 in. Artist Biography: George Shackelford is an American visual artist. He got his degree in Art History from 1973-1977 at Dartmouth College and his M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. from 1977-1986 at Yale University. He was a David E. Finley Fellow and Guest Curator at the National Gallery of Art from 1980-1984. After this he moved to Houston, Tx and served as the Curator of European Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston until 1996. He then transitioned to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and became the Art of Europe Chair where he served for 16 years until 2011. In 2012 he moved back to Texas and became the Deputy Director of the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Tx where he continues to serve.

Abstracted River Canyon Landscape in Oil on Canvas Dramatic landscape by Honora Berg (American, 1897-1985). Three large cliffs tower over a river, creating a massive canyon. The landscape is represented in colors reminiscent of fauvism - greens, yellows, and magentas. Signed "Honora Berg" at the bottom edge. Acquired with a collection of the artist's work. Initialed and numbered "HB 103" on verso Unframed. This piece is on canvas that has been stretched over cardstock by the artist. Board size: 20.5"H x 25.75"W Honora Berg (American, 1897-1985) was an Abstract Expressionist and Bay Area Figurative School artist who studied at the San Francisco Art Institute with David Park, Elmer Bischoff and James Budd Dixon. Berg's friend Edith Truesdell — David Park's aunt — suggested a move to California in 1951 to study under Park.
