About the Item
Signed realist oil on canvas seascape circa 1900 by French painter Georges Philibert Charles Maroniez. This stunning painting depicts two fishermen looking out over the harbour at Les Sables D'Alonne in Vendee, France at sunset. The water is filled with sail boats with men in row boats to the foreground and the pinks and yellows of the fading sunlight illuminate the sails and reflect in the calm water below. The work is of exceptional quality and in particular the use of light in the piece.
