Sailing break is an original painting in acrylic by Gordon Hunt. Two yachts take a break from sailing to have lunch on the beautiful sandy beach.. Everything is very peaceful, quiet and tranquil. Gordon works from his home studio in Fowey, Cornwall. “I paint the light effects of sunshine on water, with sparkling reflections and silhouettes, resulting in strong contrasting colours and dynamic shapes,” he explains. “I have a real sense of ‘painting the light’ when creating these works, evoking the feeling of sunshine, holidays and well being, which I think is why they are so popular.” “The camera is my sketchbook, I carry it at all times, ready to capture a moment, a ray of light, a sparkle of water. Back in the studio I sketch out the composition in my sketchbook, it has brown paper pages, so as well as the shapes drawn with a black pencil, I also use a white pencil to indicate the white, bright areas of the painting.” Gordon Hunt paints in acrylic on box canvas. “The quick drying properties of acrylic suits my style of painting, building up layers of colour, working towards the brightest parts of the painting.

Peter Kuhfeld
Born in Cheltenham, Peter is the only child of a German prisoner of war and an English classical pianist. He studied at Leicester School of Art between 1972-76 and on graduation worked for two years giving lessons in drawing and painting at Rugby School of Art before securing a place at the Royal Academy Schools. There he studied under Peter Greenham CBE RA from 1977 to 80. While at the Royal Academy Schools Peter won various scholarships and prizes, notably the David Murray Landscape Prize, the Royal Academy of Art Silver Medal for Drawing, the Royal College of Surgeons Dooley Prize for Anatomical Drawing, the Elizabeth Greenshield Foundation Scholarship and Richard Ford Scholarship for study in Spain. He has enjoyed a successful career exhibiting around the world and often appears in the ING Discerning Eye selection. His drawings are held in the Royal Collection and in 2012, he was commissioned by HRH The Prince of Wales to paint the royal wedding of TRH the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge.
