About the Item
A masterful oil painting depicting a view of a Venice Canal by Grace Paterson. As an Impressionist and orientalist painter, she was known for her detailed works depicting scenes from daily life and of the marine scenes. She also created numerous views of Venice during her stays there. This piece is a pertinent example of the works produced during that time with the use of a rich color pallet, and also the layers of paint is what gives this work such a stunning representation of Venice. The gondola and well as the sail boats sit effortlessly on the water, as the light from the clouds fades away in the breeze. In the waterway she uses flecks of light dashed onto the waves to capture the reflection of the city and the brilliant blue sky and depiction creates a joy for the viewer to experience. The painting is signed lower right by the artist and it comes housed an antique style golden copper tone frame with raised floral motifs and hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.
