About the Item
As a French Impressionist artist, most of Harry Deditch Dansky works were produced in the Mid-20th Century. He was known for his vibrant compositions and with a passion to portray life by the sea and city. He also favored rich texturized paintings used mainly with a highly impressionistic manor to execute his subjects. This piece blends a serene seascape with the bustle of port activity—yachts bobbing gently against azure waters, terracotta rooftops glowing under the Mediterranean sun, and the subtle play of shadows on weathered stone. A quintessential piece, Saint-Tropez, exemplifies his style: a panoramic oil on canvas that immerses viewers in the timeless allure of this iconic fishing village turned jet-set haven. This piece is signed by the artist lower left and it comes housed in wood carved frame with hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.
Art measures 18 x 22 inches
Frame measures 24.5 × 28 inches
Harry Deditch-Dansky (20th century) was a French artist renowned for his evocative depictions of the French Riviera, particularly the sun-drenched harbors and coastal scenes of Saint-Tropez. Emerging from the vibrant artistic currents of the École du XXe siècle (School of the 20th Century), Deditch-Dansky mastered the interplay of light and color, capturing the essence of Provençal life with a post-impressionist flair reminiscent of the region's luminous tradition.
Born in an era of artistic ferment, he honed his craft in both oil on canvas and watercolor with ink, often signing his works simply as "Dedic." His oeuvre is characterized by bold compositions that blend serene seascapes with the bustle of port activity—yachts bobbing gently against azure waters, terracotta rooftops glowing under the Mediterranean sun, and the subtle play of shadows on weathered stone. A quintessential piece, Le Port de Saint-Tropez, exemplifies his style: a panoramic oil canvas that immerses viewers in the timeless allure of this iconic fishing village turned jet-set haven.
Deditch-Dansky's works, though lesser-known outside collector circles, have graced auctions across Europe and the United States, from Rambouillet's Steffen’s Enchères to American galleries like Locati LLC. A 1989 watercolor-ink original, reproduced in fine prints, continues to enchant admirers of vintage French coastal art. His legacy endures as a quiet tribute to the joie de vivre of the Côte d'Azur, inviting us to linger on its shores through strokes of ochre, cerulean, and gold.
PROVENANCE: Private collection United Nations Plaza, Manhattan Estate; Lilac Gallery Collection. The piece will be stamped from Lilac Gallery on its verso.

"Marina in the French Riviera" Post-Impressionist Sea Shore Boats Oil Painting
By Lucien Adrion
Located in New York, NY
This work by Lucien Adrion is a wonderful representation of his Post-Impressionist works at the seashore by the French Riviera. Using a bright palette of colors, Adrion executes this piece with much attention to detail with many boats situated along the marina. There are palm trees and buildings placed in the distance, as we can feel the warmth of the sun contrasted with the cool breeze of the water. The boats are wonderfully executed by the artist in a very whimsical way that leaves us with an essence of enjoyment from that sunny day at the marina. As this tourist destination was a favorite of the artist to find inspiration and highly attractive subjects and compositions to represent, we can find several of his works like this subject and others. The piece is signed by the artist lower left and it comes housed in a French giltwood frame with linen liner and hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.
Art measures 19 x 23.5 inches
Frame measures 27 x 32 inches
Lucien Adrion was born May 25, 1889 in Strasbourg, France. He was a French Post-Impressionist painter, draftsman, and printmaker known for his depictions of the French countryside and beaches, as well as Parisian life including landscape, still life, figure, and landmarks paintings. He began his initial studies in Strasbourg as a technical draughtsman. In 1907, at the age of 18, he left his hometown Strasbourg and traveled to Paris, where he found employment in a large drafting company to work as a fashion illustrator. Adrion changed his mind upon arrival and rather than working for a large company, he decided to peruse his artistic career by traveling to London, Munich, and Frankfurt. As the World War broke out he had to go to Berlin, where he studied as an engraver with Hermann Struck, who was also the teacher of Marc Chagall. He remained in Berlin until the war ended and after the demobilization, Lucien would study engraving under Franz Ritter von Struck...
