About the Item

Keeper’s Pond by Helen Howells [2022] ‘Keeper's Pond' is an original Landscape painting by Helen Howells. It was inspired by the mountains of South Wales, which is my homeland. Keeper's Pond also known as Pen-ffordd-goch pond or the Forge pond is situated on the hill above the heritage site of Blaenavon. Providing water in the early 19th Century for Garnddyrys Forge. With the Forge now gone, it acquired its name Keeper's Pond from the Gamekeeper of the grouse moors who lived in a cottage nearby. Helen Howells is an artist living and working in the historic village of Caerleon in South Wales. Helen initially trained as a nurse, however following a career break whilst she raised her family, she took the decision not to return to nursing but to pursue her original ambition to become a fine artist. Upon completion of a Foundation Art course at the University of South Wales in Caerleon, in which she gained a distinction, Helen embarked upon establishing herself as an artist, focusing primarily on the dramatic Welsh seascapes and landscapes which she loves. Working predominantly in oil on canvas, she uses brush and palette knife marks to create rich textures which have been described as sensitive and expressive. Helen uses a semi abstract style to capture the essence of the image, drawing upon her experiences and deep emotional connection with the Welsh countryside. Her work focuses on the dynamic nature of light, and its interaction with the surrounding environment. The creation of each painting is an emotional journey in which Helen endeavours to engage the viewer to reach their own interpretation.

  • A Glittering Autumn Day, Tree Art, Colourful Textured Painting, Autumnal Artwork
    By Nicky Chubb
    Located in Deddington, GB
A Glittering Autumn Day by Artist Nicky Chubb is an original artwork. Chubb's unique style of splattering paint for the leaves makes the tree stand out to the viewer. Nicky Chubb artist with Wychwood Art. Nicky Chubb comments " My work is essentially optimistic, whether I'm painting flowers or the sea, the emotions I aim to evoke are hope and happiness. The trees, big skies and hardy heathland flowers of the countryside around my home, and the sense of time and belonging that watching them through the seasons brings, are a huge inspiration. I try to capture a sense of air and movement as I paint. I originally trained as a designer (BA hons Fashion, Central St Martins 1993) and the influence of my love of textiles can be seen in my use of colour, texture and pattern. I am currently exploring the different effects, happy accidents and controlled corrosion of mixed media in the backgrounds of my tree paintings to create wilder skies. Drawing the human figure, trying to capture moments in time and changing light is an interest that has always run parallel to my other work. All my figure paintings are in mixed media, either quick, gestural drawings or multi-layered combinations of ink, paint, collage and resin. " Nicky Chubb artist is shown in Wychwood Art gallery...

  • "Endless Summer", acrylic, canvas, artist tools, toys, paintbrush, tube, beach
    Located in Toronto, Ontario
"Endless Summer" is a well-known artwork among Peter Schenck's many remarkable paintings, and addresses subject matter that continues to engage the artist – the tools of painting and art making, including brushes, tubes of paint and palette knife are arranged in a child-like tableau alongside brightly colored and eroticized inflatables of the hand, the breast, the dollop of paint... And all of it reminiscent of toys on a beach under blue skies where anything should be possible. From Peter Schenck: "Endless Summer mixes up the time-honored tradition of the still life with my feelings on an artist's attachment to their tools – brush, palette, paint – an attachment at times bordering on erotic, at times feeling awkward and all-thumbs. I was also taking on Tom Wesselmann's concentrated still lives of the 60s and 70s, banal and erotic all at once." "Endless Summer" is an acrylic paint on canvas measuring 30" tall by 25" wide. It was included in the group show "Sitting Still" at Bravin Lee Programs Gallery, New York City in October 2017, and showed alongside work by Fairfield Porter, Thomas Nozkowski, Janet Fish, Robert DeNiro Sr...
