In 1992, he enrolled in the traditional Chinese painting department of China Academy of Art to study landscape painting, and graduated with a master's degree in 2000. In 2004, he earned his doctorate in fine arts from Tsinghua University. He is presently vice-president in the traditional Chinese painting department of Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, China.
