About the Item

Henri Arden (1858 – 1917) Picture Size: 20 x 24" (51 x 61cm) Outside Frame Size: 27 x 31" (69 x 79cm) Oil on Canvas Signed bottom right Free shipping Arden was born to English parents in 1858 in Antwerp and died in Brussels 1917. He was a Belgian painter at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th Century. He painted oil paintings and watercolours, and between 1878 and 1910 he exhibited his paintings annually at international and Belgian exhibitions. His first wife, Charlotte Léonie Lepla, was also a painter, known as Léo Arden; four years after his death, his second wife organized a retrospective exhibition at the Galerie d'Art in Brussels. Arden is known mainly for his Belgian ports on the North Sea coast and seascapes (Anvers and Harlem). He also painted landscapes of France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Arden was very interested in the use of light and the rendering of colours of the sea and sky according to the climatic conditions or different times of the day. Often he liked to paint sailboats at sunrise and at sunset using an approach that was similar to impressionism.

Bathing in the Forest
By Victor Gabriel Gilbert

Victor Gilbert 1847 - 1933, French Oil on Panel A magnificent work by Victor Gilbert and one for all collectors. This is a rare and important example on a grand scale that is scarcely seen. Artist's very rarely painted on beautiful mahogany panels as large as this as they were too expensive and very hard to buy. The fact that Gilbert did this highlights the significance of this work. Panel Size: 45 x 26" (114 x 66cm) Outside Frame Size: 52 x 33" (132 x 84cm) Free Shipping Victor Gilbert’s natural ability as an artist was recognized early, but his family lacked the financial resources to send the young man to the École des Beaux-Arts. Rather than enrolling in the École, Gilbert was apprenticed to Eugene Adam as an artisan painter and decorator. His only formal education was evening classes with Pierre Levasseur at the École de la Ville de Paris. Perhaps it was his early immersion into la vie quotidienne that formed the basis for his later choices of subject matter for his art, that of the markets and streets of Paris. Despite his lack of formal training, Gilbert’s admissions to the Paris Salons of 1873 and 1874 were very well received by audiences and critics alike; at this time he was supported by the dealer Paul Martin, who was an important proponent of the Impressionist movement. Gilbert emerged in the early 1880s as the primary Realist painter to record the French marketplace...

Winter Scene
By Walter Launt Palmer
Located in New York, NY
In this prototypical oil painting, Walter Launt Palmer's title as "the painter of the American winter" can be vividly and brilliantly seen. As an impressionist painter that emerged at the turn of the 20th century, Palmer took great interest in the picturesque American landscape, though he particularly focused on the rendering of this landscape glistening with snow. His pictures evoke an unreplicable natural serenity, and in this oil painting "The Winter Scene...
