Beautifully executed study of the Pont Royal over the River Seine in Paris. Bustling figures and traffic complete this busy city scene by the highly regarded painter, Henri Miloch. It is signed front lower right.
This work forms part of a collection we currently hold by Miloch. The Paris scenes seem to have been completed in the immediate post-war years, around 1948 - many were dated. This one is undated.
Henri Miloch was born in Trieste (Italy) in 1898 but studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was a member of the Society of French Artists. His life and work was very much centred in Brittany, in north west France, much of his work portrays Breton maritime life in the various ports, and local town observations, especially in the Concarneau area where he worked and exhibited for much of his artistic career. From 1959 he also had a workshop in Tours (Val de Loire).
condition report:
In good clean order, no tears or creases to the sheet (which is quite stiff watercolour paper). The white edge margins around the image have toning to the edges of the sheet but the image is clean.
