Contemporary landscape painter Ian Hargreaves evokes the idyllic atmosphere and romantic quality of Venice in this original oil painting. This inviting scene is imbued with beautiful light and shade, reflecting the artist’s incredible technical skill and his appreciation of the character of the city. The artist delicately populates and adorns the intimate view with classically stunning Venetian architecture, canal boats and lighting illuminating the river creating an enriching sense of warmth. This original city landscape painting by Ian Hargreaves is framed, stringed and ready to be displayed. Artist Biography: Born in 1957, Ian studied at Bournemouth College of Art. At the age of 21 he set off across Europe for ten months, recording his travels in watercolour. This instilled a love of Mediterranean subjects, which was to influence his work many years later. From the ages of 24 – 28 he lived in London and Sicily, earning his keep painting portraits. 1985 Ian moved to Germany, where he remained for the next 24 years. Here he exhibited with galleries in Hamburg, Munich and Salzburg. His work was also purchased for numerous Public Collections. Ian moved back to England in 2008. He now works from his studio in Poole, Dorset and exhibits regularly around the country. His work hangs in many private and corporate collections worldwide. Gorgeous late 19th-century snowscape titled "After the Snow," by artist Constantin Alexandrovitch Westchiloff (1877-1945) Signed on the bottom right corner and titled on edge (the color differences in the signature letters are original to the painting prior to cleaning, and have not been modified or augmented). Unframed. Image size: 14.25"H x 20.25"W Westchiloff is an American-Russian artist. He was born in Russia in 1877, and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg; as an artist, he traveled extensively in Europe and in the USA. He finally settled in New England, where he died in 1945. He is probably best-known for seascapes (particularly of the New England coastline) but was also well regarded for his landscapes, portraits and figures, and genre subjects. His work, especially after his travels in Europe and then in America, is closest to Impressionist in style. His favored medium was oil, which was well suited to his confident and strong technique.
