About the Item
A beautifully painted motif by the female artist Ingeborg Åkerman (1881-1960) of a woman sitting in her garden shaded from the sun by the arbor where she is sewing. It is probably painted in the early 1900´s when she had just finished her studies at the Royal Fine Art Academy in Stockholm 1902–1907.
Åkerman was born in the city of Malmö in the south of Sweden and after her studies in Sweden she went abroad to France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Italy where she visited various painting schools. After, she returned to Sweden and settled in Malmö and became an active member of the Skåne Artists' Association. She made two solo exhibitions in the 1940s in Malmö. In 1914, she participated in the Baltic exhibition and also through the years, she exhibited in collective exhibitions arranged by Sweden's general art association, the Skåne´s Artists' Association and the Association of Swedish Female Artists' exhibitions at the Skåne Art Museum and in Philadelphia, USA in 1930. Åkerman is represented at Malmö Museum, Uppsala University Library and Tomelilla municipality.
