About the Item

Artist: Shapoval Ivan Leontyevich Work: Original oil painting, handmade artwork, one of a kind Medium: Oil on Canvas Style: Impressionism Year: 2007 Title: The beginning of spring, Size: 26.5" x 31" x 0.8'' inch, (68x79x3 cm) Unframed, Stretched on Wooden Bar, Gallery Wrapped, Ready to Hang. "The Beginning of Spring" is a captivating oil painting that portrays the essence of nature's rejuvenation and the allure of a new season. Set within a picturesque landscape, the painting invites viewers to immerse themselves in the beauty and serenity of the scene. The foreground of the composition reveals a lush, vibrant green field, exuding a sense of freshness and vitality. The meticulously painted grasses sway gently in an unseen breeze, adding a touch of dynamism to the otherwise tranquil setting. In the center of the field, a narrow path emerges, winding its way invitingly into the heart of a magnificent forest. The path acts as a visual invitation, tempting the viewer to embark on an enchanting journey through the untamed wilderness. To the left of the painting, a river lies dormant, its waters still frozen from the lingering grip of winter. The icy surface reflects the soft sunlight, creating a shimmering effect that contrasts against the vibrant greens of the foreground. The river serves as a reminder of the transitioning seasons, with its frozen state hinting at the impending thaw and the subsequent arrival of spring's full embrace. Above the landscape, the sky stretches out in a captivating display of cerulean blue. Delicate, fluffy white clouds meander lazily across the heavens, their wispy forms adding a sense of tranquility to the scene. The interplay between the bright blue sky and the pristine white clouds infuses the painting with a feeling of optimism, symbolizing the promise and renewal that spring brings. "The Beginning of Spring" captures the essence of a transformative moment in nature's cycle, where winter's grasp loosens, and the world awakens to the arrival of a new season. It invites viewers to immerse themselves in the harmony of the landscape, beckoning them to follow the path into the depths of the forest and experience the exhilarating beauty of spring's emergence. "Solebury Valley"
By William Langson Lathrop
Located in Lambertville, NJ
Signed lower right. Complemented by a period frame. William L. Lathrop (1859-1938) Deemed “Father of the New Hope Art Colony”, William Langson Lathrop was born in Warren, Illinois. He was largely self-taught, having only studied briefly with William Merritt Chase in 1887, at the Art Students League. Lathrop first moved east in the early 1880s, and took a job at the Photoengraving Company in New York City. While there, he befriended a fellow employee, Henry B. Snell. The two men became lifelong friends and ultimately, both would be considered central figures among the New Hope Art Colony. Lathrop's early years as an artist were ones of continuing struggle. His efforts to break through in the New York art scene seemed futile, so he scraped enough money together to travel to Europe with Henry Snell in1888. There he met and married an English girl, Annie Burt. Upon returning to New York, he tried his hand at etching, making tools from old saw blades...
