This painting of a lakeside at dusk, reminiscent of the 'Barbizon School', showcases impressionist painting techniques where a myriad of colours and brushstrokes intermingle to create an overall impression. Get close to the work and the image blurs, step away and it comes back into focus. The colours in this painting are surprisingly varied but give an overall feeling of warmth perfect for the autumnal scene depicted. The paint is a times quite thickly applied giving great texture to the scene.
